Damien Hirst, Nothing is a Problem for Me, 1992. Glass, painted MDF, ramin, steel, aluminium and pharmaceutical packaging and step ladder, 72 x 108 x 12 in. © Damien Hirst.
The exhibition of Damien Hirst included signature works: Saint Sebastian: Exquisite Pain, 2007, from the Natural History series, butterfly paintings, and medicine cabinets. Classical themes found throughout art history of religion and mortality mirror Hirst’s interest in human and animal subjects. The works presented questioned the science of pharmacology in relationship to organic systems and natural selection. Here, images of beauty and tragedy challenge societal attitudes and conventions of both.
